Call of the Night {Wk 8}

Call of the Night follows a 14 year-old boy who feels disconnected from his daily lifestyle of school and develops insomnia. To challenge this confusion and idleness, Kou Yamori decides to leave his house late at night and is visited by a vampire named Nazuna Nanakusa. The scared and intrigued Kou follows Nazuna and explores the night. He learns that people can't sleep because they feel unfilled during their day. After finally getting a chance to sleep, Kou's blood is taken by Nazuna. Kou is enamored by the lifestyle of a vampire and aims to become one. There's only one condition which is his biggest hurdle. To become a vampire one must fall in love with the vampire and then be bitten to turn into. If he or she isn't in love with the vampire, they can remain human as their blood is taken. This anime follows Kou as he tries to fall in love with Nazuna, an odd vampire even amongst the vampiric community.

Related to my Japanese study, I noticed certain phrases and katakana that I could read during the opening and closing credits of the anime. I was also able to understand the lyrics of the music without looking at the subtitles which was so awesome! Furthermore, I learned about the night curfew that I've seen in other animes where being out at night isn't allowed for youth at least. As far as any other cultural knowledge, the anime was more of an experience and joy to watch. It's episodes follow the character mainly at night which I really enjoyed as the time skips made you wonder what Kou was doing and how the rest of the world is outside of your view. Overall, I really had a blast watching this anime with its beautiful art style and storytelling about vampires and what happens at night time in pseudo-Japan.
